Red Cross installs free smoke alarms in Wilmington homes
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of homes in the Cape Fear were visited by teams of volunteers who installed free smoke alarms with the goal to save as many lives as possible.
The American Red Cross held its nationwide campaign, Sound the Alarm. It dates back to 2014. Saturday 200 volunteers from the Port City went around homes in the Greenfield Lake area to do the installations.
The goal for the Wilmington volunteers was to put 800 alarms in 500 homes. The executive director said this is a great way to help your neighbor and community.
“At the end of the day every single smoke alarm has the possibility to save a life, so if we install one today that’s a success,” Red Cross Cape Fear Chapter Executive Director James Jarvis said.
Jarvis said they also teamed up with the fire department for this project. For more information about the campaign, click here.
