Cash and cigarettes stolen during Dollar General armed robbery

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the armed robbery of thousands of dollars in cash and hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. at the Dollar General on Dock Road in Whiteville on Sunday.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the store manager and an employee locked the store for the night and entered the parking lot together. Two men appeared, one with a shotgun.

The suspects allegedly demanded they enter the store. Once inside, they took approximately 150 packs of cigarettes and more than $5,000 in cash. The suspects were wearing face masks and at least one was wearing gloves.

No one got hurt.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
