Student accused of social media threat against New Hanover HS identified

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators have identified a student accused of making threats on social media against New Hanover High School, the school’s principal said in a phone message to students and parents tonight.

In the message, Principal Rob Morgan said the school learned late this afternoon of threats of potential violence at the school tomorrow. He said law enforcement got involved and quickly identified the student, who Morgan said will not be at school tomorrow. The student’s name has not been released.

Morgan said in his message that the school would continue to work with law enforcement on this case and quickly deal with any similar situations in the future.

Morgan also thanked everyone who came forward with information about the threats.

New Hanover County Schools Assistant Superintendent Rick Holliday told WWAY he could not disclose what exactly the threat said because of the criminal investigation.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer did not immediately have information about the investigation or any criminal charges.
