Whiteville stabbing victim in critical condition, suspect charged

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man faces charges after a stabbing over the weekend.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. A deputy with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Smyrna Road. That’s where the victim, Oscar Gutturuiz, 43, was found with stab wounds. He also had injuries around his head and legs.

The assault allegedly happened on Peacock Road.

The sheriff’s office said Gutturuiz and the suspect, Maximo Reyes-Rivandeneyra, got into an altercation.

Reyes-Rivandeneyra was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is being held under a $25,000 bond.
