Columbus Co. deputies: Teen admits to stabbing to 911, victim dies
WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead and a teen has been taken into custody in connection to stabbing that happened in Whiteville earlier this month.
Deputies responded to Columbus Regional Health Care in reference to a stabbing victim around 3:00 a.m. on July 10.
David Len Ward, 30 of Whiteville, was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle, but died by the time he arrived, according to deputies.
CCSO says Ward had been stabbed multiple times.
The sheriff’s office searched Ward’s home in the 1300 block of Rico Road in Whiteville. Investigators saw evidence leading them to believe there had been an altercation.
Shortly after, Columbus Central 911 received a call from the suspect, a 17 year old. The teen reportedly advised that he had stabbed someone.
He was located a short distance from the crime scene by Columbus County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Lake Waccamaw Police Department officers.
The teen was taken into custody and transported to New Hanover Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
This is an ongoing investigation.
