SUSPECT WANTED: Driver severely injures man on moped in downtown Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a hit and run downtown that left a Wilmington man, 41, with severe injuries.
The victim was driving his moped north on Third Street on his way to work when the crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. May 23.
The suspect vehicle, a black Chevrolet Cruze, reportedly turned behind him at Third and Market Streets and followed behind the moped for two blocks.
Police say as the victim slowed for traffic at the intersection of Third and Chestnut Streets, the suspect driver struck the victim in the rear, ejecting him from the moped. The suspect then drove off.
EMS transported the victim, who suffered broken bones, to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he later underwent reconstructive surgery.
