Holly Ridge home destroyed by fire after lightning strike
HOLLY RIDGE, NC (WWAY) – A Holly Ridge family lost their home to a fire, after lightning from Thursday’s storm struck the roof.
Holly Ridge Fire Chief Brandon Longo says no one was home at the time.
A neighbor saw flames coming from the home on Belvedere Drive around 3:10 p.m. When crews arrived five minutes later, Longo says there was heavy fire and smoke. Firefighters rescued a dog that still inside.
Several departments, including Turkey Creek, Town of Surf City and North Topsail Beach responded.
The fire was under control by 4:30 p.m.
Fire crews stayed on the scene until 5:30 p.m. to hit hot spots and get things for the family.
Lightning from the storm also hit power lines in Surf City. Surf City Fire Chief Allen Wilson said it appears a beach house was also hit, but that only caused smoke to come out of power outlets inside the home.
