Young girl gets close encounter with shark in Oak Island
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A family visiting Oak Island had quite the shocking start to their vacation when a small shark swam up next to them.
The Kobyluck family has been coming to the area for the past 12 years, but never have seen shark in the water.
“I felt something rough rub against my left leg and then my sister’s friend also felt it,” said Alyssa Kobyluck.
The family from Ohio was swimming in the ocean Sunday when their daughter Alyssa, who is 11, said she felt something rub her leg. When they all saw what it was they said they got out the water quickly and started yelling for everyone else to do the same.
“It’s a five foot shark so yeah it makes you a little nervous,” said Alyssa’s father, Chad Kobyluck.
The family says the shark remained for another 30 minutes before heading back into deeper water.
“I saw something and then right then saw the fin and the tail and we knew exactly what it was so we started yelling ‘Shark’ and telling everyone to get out of the water,” said Mr. Kobyluck.
In the video captured by the family, you can see a small shark swimming in the shoreline.
