Bumpy Roads: Carolina Beach looks to smooth things out for drivers
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Roads around Carolina Beach have seen better days, but the town is doing what it can to rework some of the infrastructure.
It can be a bumpy ride going through some streets and that’s why the town is cracking down on some of those cracked roads.
“While we’re going in and putting in all new water, sewers, stormwater,” Asst. Town Manager Ed Parvin said. “We’re going to re-do the streetscapes as well, so hopefully this is replaced on time and can last the community for the next 50 or 75 years.”
The town hosted a workshop so members of the community could express their opinions and concerns with the plans for some roads.
“We are a residential area,” resident Brenda Bryant said. “We have two commercial properties close to Lake Park Blvd, but the rest of Harper, until you reach a mile down on Dow Road, it’s all residential.”
The biggest concern brought up whether this work would spill over into their properties.
“Most people I spoke to want to keep their greenspace, do not want parking spaces, or even paid parking, especially that, in front of their homes,” Bryant said.
So far the town is listening for potential changes to the plan.
“They’re very excited about having the mutli-use paths, keeping a lot of the green space,” Parvin said. “The biggest concern is they want to make sure they have access to their properties, and that’s what we’re doing tonight is identifying those areas.”
Other roads that may have work done are Goldsboro, Wilson, Lumberton, and Florence Avenues. These plans are still subject to change.
