Animals get new home at ‘Clear the Shelter’ event

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Several animals have a new home thanks to the “Clear the Shelter” event at New Hanover Animal Services. Saturday was a day full of joy for some animals and their new owners.

One couple who came to the shelter with one special dog in mind. They did not even know about “Clear the Shelter,” but they were determined to bring this dog home with them.

Steve and Jodi Hebert have been thinking about getting a dog for quite a while now. They did their research and when they found one specific dog online, they thought it was the perfect time.

They were looking for a gentle, friendly dog and that’s exactly what they found with this one. They named him Buddy.

“It just came out of our mouth. We just said, ‘Hey, come here Buddy,’ and you know, Buddy just rolled off the tongue, and he responded a bit. So, why not? So we called him Buddy,” Steve Hebert said. “They called him a wallflower and that’s what made us really think that we really looking for a really laid back, relaxing dog. He seems to be that way. So we’re hoping that he’ll fit right in with the family with the rest of us.”

The best part is that the Hebert’s children do not know a thing. They planned to bring Buddy home as a surprise for the family.

One dog, three cats and even two fish were adopted from New Hanover yesterday, but there are still more animals looking for homes at every shelter.
