Here’s some tips for a fun and safe Halloween
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The city of Wilmington’s fire stations will be handing out treats to children from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Halloween.
Following are a few safety tips.
Pumpkins
- Carve pumpkins on stable, flat surface
- Children should draw a face on the outside of the pumpkin and let parents do the cutting
- Place lighted pumpkins away from curtains and other flammable objects
- Do not leave lighted pumpkins unattended
Children should
- Go only to well-lit houses and remain on porches
- Travel in small groups accompanied by an adult
- Attach name and address to costumes
- Bring treats home before eating them so parents can inspect them
- Use flashlights, stay on sidewalks and avoid crossing yards
- Cross streets at the corner, use crosswalks and do not cross between parked cars
Motorists should
- Drive slowly
- Watch for children in the street and on medians
- Exit driveways and alleyways carefully
