Deputies bust ‘heroin dealers’ at Whiteville motel

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Sheriff’s Office have busted two people for allegedly dealing a cocktail of drugs from a Whiteville motel.

The drug investigation stemmed from citizen complaints.

Since December, the CCSO Vice-Narcotics Unit says they did numerous undercover buys of large amounts of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin from 28-year-old Keenan McKal Coby. One undercover reportedly bought of heroin from Christy Marie Hammonds, 33.

CCSO executed a search warrant Wednesday at the Holiday Motel, room 136, located at 2119 James B White Highway North in Whiteville.

When investigators entered the room, they said they found Colby and Hammonds in the bathroom trying to destroy the drugs, but were unsuccessful.

During the search, investigators reportedly found 11 slips of heroin, 14 grams of cocaine, marijuana, a set of digital scales, and packaging materials.

The duo was arrested and taken to the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center.

Colby, of Whiteville, is in jail under $4,100,000 secured bond for nearly a dozen drug charges. Hammonds, of Whiteville is under $2,050,000 secured bond for five drug charges.

In May 2018, District Attorney Jon David announced a new policy would allow prosecutors to request a one million dollar bond for anyone arrested for selling heroin or carfentanil.

“If you know someone who should be added to this list of lucky heroin dealers, please let me know,” the sheriff office stated in a news release. “If you are a heroin dealer, I have a nice warm room for you with hot food and a new mattress. See you soon.”
