Wilmington police searching for driver who crashed through fence

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are asking for help identifying a driver who crashed through a privacy fence and collided with children’s toys before driving off.

Police say it happened two weeks ago at 23rd and Market Streets.

The victim told officers she heard “an excessively loud noise” while putting her children to bed.

When she checked outside she discovered parts of a silver Nissan sedan in the yard, along with a mangled fence in her front and back yards.

Police say the driver failed to stop at the intersection struck a curb, scraped the sidewalk and continued south into the victim’s yard, creating a hole in the front yard privacy fence.

The driver then struck the self-standing basketball goal, pushing it more than 20 feet, before crashing into the chain-link fence in the backyard.

The driver turned around in the backyard and then exited through the opening that was created in the front fence.

The driver cut across the neighbor’s driveway and then fled westbound onto Market Street.

Several pieces of the suspect’s vehicle were found on the victim’s property.

Anyone with information on the driver or who can help locate the car should contact Wilmington Police at (910) 343-3609 or use Text-A-Tip.
