CFCC introduces cutting-edge truck driving simulator for students

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One college is stepping up their game. Cape Fear Community College added a new simulator to give stught a truudents in their truck driver training program hands-on experience.

The simulator gives students the chance to practice driving through dangerous conditions and rough terrain.

CFCC President Jim Morton says they have been adding more classes to the program to give students a competitive edge.

Morton explains how students get real life training through the simulator.

“Our trucks are loaded. We have tanker trucks where we do three-quarter loads,” said Morton. “So if you’re not familiar with truck driving, a three-quarter load of fluid in the back shifts. So if you suddenly hit your breaks at a stop light, that loads is going to push you through that intersection.”

Morton says CFCC is one of only a few colleges in the country that offers a simulator training like this.
