Habitual felon sentenced to 10 years for breaking into Wilmington home

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County man with eleven prior convictions will spend at least 10 years in prison for breaking into a home last year.

On Thursday, a New Hanover County jury found Adell Grady, 47, guilty of breaking and entering a home, felony larceny, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

On the morning of Monday, March 12, 2018, Grady kicked down the front door of a residence located on Fowler Street and stole electronics, video games, and three firearms.

Grady was both seen by neighbors and caught on surveillance camera driving a gold Dodge Neon, scoping out the victim’s home and leaving the scene with a Game Stop bag prosecutors allege contained the stolen firearms and property. Surveillance video from another break in occurring the same day and one street over helped the Wilmington Police Department identify Grady.

Superior Court Judge John Nobles sentenced Grady, a habitual felon, to 120-156 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. In addition, Judge Nobles sentenced Grady to 111- 146 months for the breaking and entering and felony larceny charges, which he will serve concurrently with the 120-156 month sentence. Restitution was ordered to be paid to the victim.

After the jury’s verdict, Grady pleaded guilty to an additional 2017 break in and larceny.

Grady’s criminal record includes prior convictions for breaking and entering, first degree
burglary, second degree burglary, felony larceny, and a breaking into a motor vehicle.
