Where to recycle your Christmas trees

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the Christmas season begins to wrap up, you may be wondering where to recycle your Christmas tree.
Brunswick County
Live trees (without ornaments, lights, and decorations) are accepted free at the Brunswick County Landfill and for $5 per tree at the Convenience Centers from January 2 – January 31. After January 31, normal tipping fees apply.

Oak Island
The annual Grinding of the Greens tree collection program will be available from December 26 – January 16 with a collection area in the Middleton Park Complex parking lot at 4610 E Dolphin Drive. The town said this program provides a convenient and environmentally beneficial way to dispose of live Christmas trees, where after collection the trees are ground up and used as mulch in various town parks and facilities.
New Hanover County
From December 26 – January 31, New Hanover County residents can bring undecorated live trees and holiday decorations to three locations for recycling and use around the county.

The City’s Recycling & Trash Services staff will collect it on a customer’s regular trash day pickup. The trees are recycled into compost and mulch. Trees must be placed out separated from trash or recycling.
Carolina Beach
On January 31, The Cape Fear Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is strengthening local dunes by recycling discarded Christmas trees. The group will be meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Periwinkle Public Beach Access in Carolina Beach. Click here to learn more about the event.
Wrightsville Beach
Christmas tree recycling will be available for drop off at Wrightsville Beach Public Works at 200 Parmele Blvd. from December 29 – January 19.
Pender County
