Wilmington International Airport now reopened after evacuation due to a bomb threat

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The terminal at Wilmington International Airport has reopened following an evacuation on Thursday after airport officials received a reported bomb threat.
Airport officials say they were made aware of the alleged threat and cleared the terminal out of an abundance of caution to ensure everyone’s safety.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad conducted a sweep of the airport to determine the credibility of the threat.
When our crew was on the scene, they also saw a State Bureau of Investigation bomb squad drive past at one point.
We also noticed passengers standing around along the airport’s curb-front.
Some began walking towards the Circle K along Airport Blvd to get picked up by family or friends.
One passenger, Jacob Rice, said he couldn’t believe something like this could happen.
“Locally, especially this small town, it’s insane, yeah. I would never expect anything like that here,” Rice said. “I mean, people are crazy, but in this little, small town, it’s something I never expect to hear or even see anything like this happen. So it’s pretty bizarre, honestly.”
The airport reopened just before 10 pm.
