Leland man faces multiple charges after Wilmington shooting investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Leland teenager is facing multiple charges after Wilmington police say he fired a gun and ran from officers Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded around 2:10 p.m. to a ShotSpotter activation in the 1300 block of Corbett Street.

Police say officers canvassed the area and located a suspect near McRae Street. When officers approached, the person ran, leading to a foot chase.

Officers ultimately caught the suspect in the 700 block of Taylor Street. Investigators say a handgun was also recovered nearby after the suspect attempted to discard it.

The suspect was identified as Amarqeono Brown, 18, of Leland.

Brown is charged with discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, resist, delay and obstruct public officers, carrying a concealed weapon, discharge of a firearm in a reckless manner, injury to real property and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.

He was taken to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.
