Memorial Day weekend events happening across the Cape Fear region

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — From Memorial Day ceremonies and community parades to art festivals, concerts and family-friendly gatherings, communities across the Cape Fear region are preparing for a busy holiday weekend.

Here’s a look at some of the events happening across southeastern North Carolina over Memorial Day weekend:

Bladen County

Clarkton Memorial Day Spring Meet

The Clarkton community will celebrate 165 years of history and hometown pride with the Town of Clarkton Memorial Day Spring Meet on Monday, May 25.

The event will take place along Railroad Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a parade, live entertainment, craft and food vendors, and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Town leaders say the event is designed to bring residents and visitors together while honoring the generations that helped shape the community.

Columbus County

Memorial Day Celebration of Fallen Heroes

A Memorial Day celebration honoring fallen heroes is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Bogue Park in Hallsboro.

Hosted by the Artesia Alumni Association and the Bogue Community Citizens Association, the event will recognize military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Pender County

Books and Blooms at Old River Farms

Book lovers and flower enthusiasts can head to Old River Farms in Burgaw for the Books and Blooms event on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature local authors, book-themed vendors, giveaways, and floral displays throughout the farm property. Organizers say exclusive tote bags will be available for the first 25 adult attendees.

New Hanover County

Carolina Beach Boardwalk Blast

Carolina Beach will kick off its summer Boardwalk Blast concert series Friday night with live music and fireworks.

The Port City Shakedown will perform R&B and soul music from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the boardwalk, with fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Orange Street ArtsFest

The 29th annual Orange Street ArtsFest returns to Wilmington for a weekend celebrating local and regional artists.

Hosted by the Thalian Association Community Theatre, the indoor/outdoor festival will feature paintings, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, food trucks, student artwork, and more.

The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Battleship North Carolina Memorial Day Ceremony

The Battleship North Carolina will host its 62nd annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 25, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The event honors service members who died serving the country, including North Carolina’s “Immortal 11,000.” Author Becky Aikman will serve as keynote speaker, and retired Admiral John G. Morgan Jr. is also expected to speak.

Brunswick County

Belville Memorial Day Ceremony

The Belville Memorial Day ceremony honoring military members and first responders who died in service will take place Monday, May 25, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hosted by the Town of Belville and VFW Post 12196 and Auxiliary, the ceremony at the Belville Riverwalk Veterans Memorial will include a wreath laying and remembrance tribute.
