Girl Scouts announce new dog treat and allergy-friendly cookie for 2027

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The Girl Scouts are adding two new products to their cookie lineup for the 2027 season, including a treat made for dogs and an allergy-friendly cookie.

The organization announced Tuesday that Patch Pals and Girl Scout Sparkables will be available during the 2027 cookie season.

Patch Pals is a soft-baked, blueberry muffin-flavored dog treat developed with BARK. The treats are designed for dogs and are not intended for human consumption.

Girl Scout Sparkables is a crunchy oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips and sprinkles. It was developed with Partake in a facility designed to avoid the nine major food allergens.

Lisa M.K. Jones, CEO of Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, said the allergy-friendly option was influenced in part by feedback from Girl Scouts.

“There’s an opportunity to kind of hear about what is needed and having a more allergy-friendly cookie was elevated from our girls,” Jones said.

Jones said the dog treat was developed in response to consumer interest and in partnership with BARK.

Both new products will be sold online only for direct shipping.

The new offerings will join existing Girl Scout cookies, including Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Trefoils and more.

How the cookie program works

The annual Girl Scout Cookie Program provides funding for local councils and troops.

Jones said proceeds help support Girl Scout programs and can help reduce financial barriers for girls participating in the program.

She said more than 5,000 Girl Scouts served by Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines receive assistance that allows them to participate.

Troops can use proceeds to help fund activities throughout the year, including travel, outdoor programs, STEM activities, community service and other experiences.

The cookie program also gives girls opportunities to practice skills such as goal setting, decision-making, money management and customer service.

Jones said the business skills developed through the program are one part of a broader leadership program.

“It’s like they’re two new products, but what is kind of timeless is the confidence that we’re building in these amazing young women,” Jones said.

When is the 2027 cookie season?

Cookie season dates vary by Girl Scout council.

For Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, the 2027 cookie season will run from Jan. 16 through March 14, 2027.

Patch Pals and Girl Scout Sparkables will be available online for direct shipping beginning Jan. 12.

Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines serves 41 counties in central and eastern North Carolina, including the Wilmington area.
