NHCS curbside summer meals program to begin in June

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools will launch their curbside summer meal service this month.

To get lunch, the only step parents or children need to take is driving or walking up to one of the eight locations offering the curbside pick-up.

Any child under the age of 18 is eligible for one free lunch per day. NHCS Director of Child Nutrition Imer Smith says the children do not have to be residents of New Hanover County to receive a meal.

“When school’s out, they sometimes say that learning ends. With us, hunger never ends,” Smith said. “During this whole process, we’re going to be feeding the bodies, the minds, and then they’ll be ready and prepared to go for the next school year.”

The following pick-up locations will serve the grab-and-go meals Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Blair Elementary 6510 Market Street
Forest Hills Elementary 602 Colonial Drive
Johnson Pre-K 1100 McRae Street
