Helen Holt joined the WWAY NewsChannel 3 team in May 2014 as a reporter and weekend meteorologist. In June 2017, she added the duties of Web Content Manager, which also allowed her to do weather weeknights on WWAY NEWS at 7 and 7:30. Born and raised in eastern North Carolina, Helen grew up as a beach lover from the start. There are many childhood memories of sleeping in the middle of her house as a hurricane passes over. That is how her passion for weather sparked. Severe weather and hurricanes drive her weather enthusiasm. After high school, she moved from the sandy beaches to the Appalachian Mountains. Helen attended the University of North Carolina Asheville and earned her Bachelor of Sciences in Atmospheric Sciences. She was Vice-President for the American Meteorological Society Student Chapter for two consecutive years. Helen also interned at WCTI in New Bern and WLOS in Asheville. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family and skimboarding. Helen has been competing in skimboarding competitions around the US since she was 9 years old. Helen and her husband live in New Hanover County.
