Bowling With Badges: UNCW Police raise money for Special Olympics NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In what is becoming a yearly tradition, the UNCW Police Department came together with Special Olympics North Carolina at Cardinal Lanes in Wilmington for “Bowling With Badges.”

The event raised $1,200 for Special Olympics NC last year. Organizers hoped to top that number at Saturday’s event through the sale of bowling registrations, raffle tickets and North Carolina law enforcement Torch Run t-shirts.

UNCW Police Officer Erin Bray says every time she gets to work with the Special Olympics athletes is a great experience.

“They are very thankful and they’re such awesome people to get to know,” Bray said. “It’s nice to see Special Olympics are able to help them highlight their abilities and their strengths. It’s just been a very positive experience and it makes doing things like this so easy and fun.”

Bowling With Badges is just one of the events each year that UNCW Police puts on to support Special Olympics NC. They also take part in a Law Enforcement Torch Run each May.
