Community support fuels DREAMS of Wilmington’s push toward $100K milestone
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — DREAMS of Wilmington is in the midst of its Dream Big Campaign.
DREAMS of Wilmington is a youth development organization that is dedicated to creating a culture of confidence for youth and teens, through equitable access to arts education, supported by the values of respect, family, and community.
The organization provides free-of-charge arts programming to more than 600 young people and their families each year.
Jaya Kandasamy, DREAMS of Wilmington Director of Youth Development, sat down with WWAY’s Tomika Jackson to discuss the fundraising campaign and an upcoming event.
“The Dream Big Campaign is a $50,000 match from an anonymous donor,” Kandasamy said. “We’re a few thousand dollars away. We had a beautiful fundraiser this morning and we’re hoping to make the last couple thousand dollars to have $100,000 for the next fiscal year.”
Kandasamy said donors have until Monday to help the organization reach that goal.
In honor of the organization’s 29th anniversary, DREAMS of Wilmington will also host the Colorful Chaos showcase on Friday, May 1 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
It’s happening at the organization’s location at 901 Fanning Street in Wilmington.
“That is a great opportunity for the community to come to meet the kids, the teachers, see the live performances and also see our gallery,” Kandasamy said.
Kandasamy said plans are also in the works for the organization’s 30th anniversary happening next year.
