Gas leak prompts road closures in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC— A gas leak in Southport has led to road closures and an ongoing emergency response in the area, according to the Southport Police Department.

Officials say the incident is located in the 200 block of West West Street, where police are assisting fire crews at the scene. Authorities are urging residents and drivers to avoid the area if possible.

In an update, police said the roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours as crews work to address the situation. The gas company is also on-site assisting emergency responders.

Officials continue to advise the public to steer clear of the area while crews work to safely resolve the leak.
