Maple Hill veteran receives new roof through community partnership

MAPLE HILL, NC (WWAY) — A Marine Corps veteran in Maple Hill has a new roof over his head thanks to a partnership involving a local roofing company and two charitable organizations.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Phillip Hickey received the new roof Wednesday, Sept. 30, through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.

Patriot Roofing & Exteriors donated the labor to install the roof, while the Owens Corning Foundation provided the roofing materials. Purple Heart Homes helped select and approve Hickey for the project.

“Giving back starts with showing up for people in our own community,” Patriot Roofing owner Stephanie Bolton said. “Our team was honored to put our skills to work for Mr. Hickey and his family as a thank-you for his service.”

The Roof Deployment Project works with roofing contractors and charitable organizations to provide new roofs to veterans in need.

According to Patriot Roofing, more than 850 veterans have received roofs through the program since it launched in 2016.
