New Hanover County state trooper charged with DWI

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A North Carolina State Trooper based in New Hanover County is facing a DWI charge.

The Wilmington Police Department charged D.P. Tafoya with DWI over the weekend.

Chris Knox with the NC Highway Patrol says Tafoya is a 23 year veteran of the Highway Patrol.

Knox says Tafoya is on paid administrative leave.

No word yet on Tafoya’s blood alcohol content or what led to the stop.
