Teen heads to American Idol auditions for second year
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Eugene Ashley High School student is returning to the American Idol auditions for his second year. This year, he has got invited for a special kind of audition.
Joshua Ward fell short in Hollywood last year at American Idol, and his run ended in tears. This year is another story. He is back and better than ever.
“From the moment that they said ‘You’re going home,’ I said, ‘Well then I’m coming back,'” said Ward, who is now a junior at Ashley High School.
Ward has been invited to a private audition in Atlanta on September 20th. He says he has taken the last eight months to build his confidence and find himself.
Since getting sent home, Ward has played numerous gigs around Wilmington.. including the Azalea Festival.
“All the nice things that the people at the shows have been saying and how many gigs I’ve been getting, really has just gone to show more that I can do this. This is what I was made to do,” said Ward.
Ward plans to woo the judges with a new set of songs this time around.
“I’ve known I’ve always loved it. But this, American Idol, really kind of put that affirmation in it. As I kept on getting “yes” after “yes” after “yes”, I’m like ‘Wow, this is really what i feel like like i was made and wired to do,'” said Ward.
Most importantly, he found a whole new passion for music.
The audition tour stopped in Charlotte today. American Idol will return to WWAY ABC in January.
