Topsail baseball investigation concludes

BURGAW — Nearly two months after an investigation into an ineligible player on the Topsail High School baseball team was opened, the Pender County Board of Education announced its findings during a meeting Friday.

Pender County Schools attorney Richard Schwartz read a report that assigned responsibility to all involved, including parents and players. Schwartz added the report would be made available to the public directly after the meeting.

“As a member of the high school athletic association, Topsail High School must comply with all of its rules and regulations, as well as Pender County Board of Education policy,” Schwartz said. “Responsibility for assuring that compliance is shared among various school system employees, primarily the head coach of the team involved, the school’s athletic director, principal and county athletic director.”
