Tourism industry faces wet weather struggles
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The summer is a important time for many beach towns who rely on the tourism industry. But the recent wet weather has cut into their potential profits.
If bad weather forces tourists to make different plans, the towns suffer.
Jeoffrey Nathan with the Blockade Runner Hotel in Wrightsville Beach says while some visitors have called ahead of time to question what’s going on with the weather, he has been reassuring them to not worry.
“We do a lot of outdoor movies for kids, and different ice cream socials and s’mores and stuff,” Nathan said. “We’ve just been moving things inside, like we’ve done the movie inside, and just kind of been a little bit flexible with the rain. Usually it just lasts for an hour or half hour and passes, and people are ready to come outside again.”
Nathan says for the most part people are not letting the bad weather ruin their good time and the hotel has not seen a big increase in cancellations.
