Town of Oak Island issues red flag conditions at beach

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Oak Island has upgraded the Beach Warning Flag to a red flag for the remainder of the day on Tuesday, June 23.
Town officials said this overrides the current flag forecast by the National Weather Service, and is due to hazardous conditions observed locally by the Beach Safety Division.
Officials said during a red flag there is a high risk of rip currents and rough surf conditions, with no “safe” water depth identified.
The beach areas are still open to enjoy, but ocean swimming and in-water activity should not take place.
