Wilmington event honors MLK, state and local officals
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Rep. Mickey Michaux knows how to recognize what his friend, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., called “the fierce urgency of now” during his speech at The March on Washington. And, Michaux said Saturday at an event to remember that speech, the urgency of now is calling again.
“It’s my position right now,” Michaux, D-Durham, said, “that we have morphed from the 19th century to the 21st century, and we’ve forgotten everything that occurred in the 20th century.”
Michaux was one of four people recognized Saturday at the Ebenezer Empower Center, 2929 Princess Place Drive during a 55th Anniversary Celebration of the March on Washington. More than 50 people gathered Saturday to see Michaux honored, along with Rep. Rodney Moore, District Court Judge James Faison and longtime pastor Kojo Nantambu.
