WPD to host mother/daughter self-defense classes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department says there are still spots available for its six-week mother/daughter self-defense training the department is sponsoring with Maides Park.

Every Wednesday from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10 WPD officers will lead a one-hour class that explores self-defense techniques, discusses situational awareness and offers tips to help protect yourself.

WPD says the program is a part of an on-going effort to provide free classes to the community.

Participants should wear loose fitting clothes, soft sole shoes and should bring a water bottle. Classes will be held at Maides Park, 1101 Manly Avenue.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Participants must be at least 11 years old.
