WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Ordering a dress for a special occasion is an exciting time for a woman. But when the dress does not arrive quickly, and then even more time goes by, that excitement turns to stress.

A Brunswick County woman claims one bridal shop did not hold up its end of the bargain. Now she wants her money back.

Delores Warren attended a ball in Wilmington last month, but the dress she wore is not the one she had her heart set on.

Warren started searching for a white dress in February. On April 2 she found a dress she loved at the Bridal Boutique.

"I asked how long it would take to get back, and she said two weeks." Warren said. "I said great, because I didn't want to be struggling trying to find a dress for an event I was attending."

Warren left a $100 deposit. In early June, she still had not heard anything about her dress.

"I asked, you know, what's going on with my dress, and I called on Saturday. It didn't come in. I called on monday. It wasn't there," Warren said.

Warren says the Bridal Boutique promised it would arrive in time. Worried she wouldn't have anything to wear, warren bought another dress as a back-up.

Then, two days before the ball and more than 12 weeks since she ordered the dress , the Bridal Boutique called and told her the dress was there.

"I told them my name, why I was there, and the assistant looked at me with a stone face and said, 'Well, you have to pay the balance before we bring it out the back so you can see it,'" Warren said.

Warren says she was told it was store policy.

"I'm like, well, it's not written on my receipt or posted in the place that was near the counter where I was, and the lady kept saying, 'It's store policy,' and I'm like, 'I've never heard anything like that in my life,'" Warren said.

Warren refused to pay the balance without seeing the actual dress, so she left.

We contacted Bridal Boutique owner Sandra Bost. She did not want to go on camera, but over the phone, she denied promising the dress would arrive in two weeks.

"It takes three to four months for these dresses to come in," Bost said. "See, these people hear what they want to hear, and when we try to explain it to them and the contract she signed said approximate ship date. We put that on there and have them sign that type of thing so they understand."

As for not letting warren see the dress, Bost said it is store policy not to let customers try on their dresses until the balance is paid, but when we asked again whether Warren should have been able to see the dress, Bost said, "I'll find out what took place, but even if we didn't bring it out, the policy in this store is you pay for the dress before you try it on. I guess we don't have it written down before we bring it out, but why would we have her pay for it if it isn't here?"

Bottom line is Bost is not returning Warren's $100 deposit.

Bost says she will hold the dress for a few more weeks before putting it out on the sales floor.

Warren plans to go to small claims court to try and get her money back. We will let you know what happens.

I am happy to say, I won the

I am happy to say, I won the case for a second time. Ms. Sandra Bost stated that she had never had a problem with anyone but me. We know that is a lie based on the complaints that have been posted. All of you should take her to court. She can not make you pay without seeing your dress, that is the law. I will let you know when I receive my money.

I would like to thank

I would like to thank everyone for your comments. I took Sandra Bost to the small claims court and I won. She did not appeal the case. As a matter of fact, she sent her daughter and her assistant to court with the dress in tow. To me, that was amazing when they would not bring it out of the back room for me to see. I would encourage everyone who've been affected by this lady to take her to court and make sure you sue her and not the Bridal Boutique because it is not an incooperation. It is a process, but in the end, we can all be winners and stop this lady and her staff from being crooks. They are not above the law.

correction

I stated in my post above that Sandra Bost had not appeal the case. She made an appeal, but when I called on the date that I was told to call, it was not done at that time. She has since made an appeal and I am waiting to be served. This seem to be a never ending situation.

Horrible costumer service and racist

Been there and the owner is always fighting with her daugther the manager in front of costumers. It is a shame you get so many excuses when you do not get what you order and also having to pay more for a mistake they had, And even worse being discriminated on deals some people get but just because you are hispanic or african american you can not get the same deal.
Please people don't let this lady do whatever she wants with you. Shop somewhere else.

Here Comes the Brides!

... Just not to this Bridal Shop.

I trust my peer reviews! Thank you to the women who have shared their stories and perception of this so called 'business'.

These are a really lousy bunch of store policies at best!!!

As these stories unfold, I can vividly perceive the type of 'business protocol' these people operate under and have ELIMINATED them from our 4 daughters up-coming weddings. The bridal parties for my girl's will be at least the loss of 20 DRESS sales, + Mom of Bride and Grand mom of Bride and possibly MOM of Groom And Grandma of Groom...

Who EVER heard of having to pay the remaining amount of money before you try the dress on, when it FINALLY arrives months later, for whatever reason....

Crazy!!!!!!!!

I can't say, but

I can't say that I have had experience with this store, but from all that I have read, it would not be a place I would go to in the future. There is always two sides to every story, but by reading what I have, I believe the owner of this store has about talked her way out of a business. She sounds very unprofessional to me, but again I have never been there.

There are other places you can go to where the service is much better.

I ran

just as hard as I could out of that place when I was looking for my bridal party gowns. They were trashy unprofessional people. I was told the dresses would have to be special ordered then 15 min later the same lady told one of my bridesmaids that the dress was an "in stock" item and they could have it in 3 days AND she quoted her a price that was $50 cheaper then what she told me....and that was BEFORE the "rush" and "special order" charges were added to mine. We left from there and drove straight to Davids Bridal in Fayetteville (they didn't have one in Mayfair yet) where we found much nicer dresses for almost $100 cheaper. It was worth the drive. I recommend EVERYONE STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM BRIDAL BOUTIQUE!

My Wedding Dress

The Bible says God will fight all your battles, And you shall reap that of which you sewth. I ordered my wedding dress from this Lady and her mother paid the deposit. I went back cause they told me they had to special order it and we ordered it bigger then i needed. when i went back they had wrote on folder "Wedding Canceled". I asked what was that all about. The mother the older lady was there and she said I called them and told them this. So we went back and forth about this and that I signed that paper and had to pay for it all.I left, a few weeks later I get a phone call and this young girl that works there asked when was I coming to pay for my dress cause it was on hold. I go running to store and to my avial NO DRESS!!! I was hurt they talked to me like a dog the mother said she was the owner of the store! When I talked with the daughter she was the owner of the store. The mother told me that contract would stand up in court cause they have taken many people to court to get their money. She (daughter) emailed me and all being ulgy. Im not going to say I was being very nice either or saying anything good. I still to this day have all my papers together cause if anything was to come up. But I still to this day didn't get my $250.00 back nor My Wedding Dress!!

Please Do NOT Shop Here

I couldn't believe that this was on TV yesterday. I have had problems with this shop as well. I ordered a dress in December and was told that it would take three months. At the end of the third month I called and was told it could take up to four months. When I called at that time I was told a different story and lies just continued. Finally for over a month they said it was being shipped but would not give me a tracking number.

I was left with no choice and purchased another dress in fear that it would never come. When I called the dress had arrived and they would not even give me a partial refund. Even though it took much longer than what I was told on several occasions.

Please do not go to this shop. They tell customers what they want to hear to get them to purchase a dress, then act rude and lie to customers when they have not delivered on what they promised and blame the customer.

Sized right, order wrong

A few years ago, I was maid of honor in my
sisters wedding. Several months before the wedding, all of the female wedding party met at Bridal's Boutique for fitting. When our dresses arrived, we were called in for final fitting. When I saw my dress I immediately noticed something was wrong with ny dress. IT WAS A SIZE ONE!!!!! I was fitted as a size 12. The owner offered to reoeder my dress and it would arrive in two weeks. I declined because the wedding was in two weeks and I was informed at fitting it takes six to eight weeks. I asked could I have a refundm The owner stated they have a no refund policy. I explained to her that I understood that very well but being that it was their consultant's error, I should get a refund. I went to other bridal shops looking for a dress of the same color and when I told them of my story, they immediately knew what shop it was. Luckily, I was able to find me a dress. After the wedding was over, I called a tv court show and invited them on the show that was about bad experiences with bridal shops, of course she declined. The wedding I was in was in 2007 and I'm still hearing horror stories about Bridal Boutique. When will they stop.

bridal dress

i can understand a no refund policy but to refuse to bring the dress out for viewing is unacceptable..at the very least good customer service would dictate an in-house exchange of merchandise.. i hear passing the buck, denying to support lying in all of the owners comments...in today's economy no one should have to put up with this crap.. from deceptive business owners..shoppers beware...of this shop....i would rather have a happy customer to return than an unhappy customer to leave and never return...

dress

Lets get dresses at other places,please....

Marcy, I have a few questions...

Is there an "approximate ship date" listed on the paperwork, and if so, what is it?

Does the owner trully expect us to believe that Ms. Warren ordered a dress on 2 April for a function in late June AFTER she had been advised that it could take three to four months to come in? The receipt clearly showed the function date of 25 June. Since that was less than three months away from the order date, shouldn't that have raised alarm bells with the sales staff? Why would they take that order if they didn't believe that it would be in long before that, and relate the same to Ms. Warren?

Why would a fairly inexpensive dress take three to four months to arrive? I can special order a $60k Ford F350 pickup and it will be here in less than two months. Where is this dress coming from - Tibet? Hand sewn by monks?

You know what this shoppe

You know what this shoppe Owner surely didnt go to business school and has no manners to get on local TV even if just audio and to say "see these people hear what they wanna hear" well Miss Bridal Boutique "these people" should be referred to as "my customers". I have shopped in your store, but never again customer appreciation, caring for your customers, ensuring your customers are happy is what grows a business. See what you dont understand is "these people" can shop elsewhere. Sorry but you presented yourself as a hateful ole money grubbing bull throwing shop owner. One that will say whatever to get that deposit...then its "these people hear what that wanna hear" rubbish. You should give "your customer" a public appoligy for speaking to her as if she were less than you.. You did get a hundred bucks for nothing from her..."these people" how rude!

Wow ... what an interesting

Wow ... what an interesting display of customer service. In addition to making an @$$ of herself, owner Sandra Bost has convinced me to never, ever, set foot in her dress shop. Seeing as how this is the way she does business, I wouldn't be surprised if a 'going out of business sale' will be taking place at her shop in the near future.

Been there

I've had the same issue with this store. =/ I hope Ms. Warren gets her money back.

Bost is boss

Wasn't Sandra Bost the lady wrapped in the old Wilmington Jaycee clan? Was she there during the embezzlement and misappropriation of funds?
I also believe her ex husband wither is or was Nat Bost, a former WPD officer...

I know for a fact that custom evening gowns can be received from California, sent to New York for custom alteration and back in Wilmington within three weeks

I think if you do some digging you will learn why this place might not be your first stop...

Good customer service would have been to hand the dress over at the alteration cost... It would not be a gain, but it would not have ended up on the news and scarred away future and new business... Some people will just never learn...
