ONLY ON 3: Leland police chief punched officer during bachelor party

READ MORE: ONLY ON 3: Leland police chief punched officer during bachelor party

LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- WWAY has confirmed with two independent sources that Leland Police Chief Timothy Jayne recently punched one of his officers during a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach.

The sources, who wish to remain anonymous, tell us Jayne slugged Officer John Holman and that other officers had to pull him off. Myrtle Beach Police were not called in to investigate.

The party was being thrown for Officer Aaron Naughton, who has resigned since then and now works in the security department at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The sources also tell us the chief and his officers took town-owned vehicles to Myrtle Beach.

We've reached out to Chief Jayne to get his side of the story. We also wanted to talk with him about a story we broke Tuesday regarding Officer Sherry Lewis being shot at least 12 times in the crotch by her fellow officers with training simulation ammunition. Lewis's attorney says she was injured in the shooting.

Jayne told WWAY this morning, "We're not going to make any comment on that or any information regarding that story. And that comes from the Town Manager's office."

Leland Town Manager Bill Farris said he could not confirm or deny the incident happened.

Both the police department and the Town of Leland are also refusing to tell us if the officers involved in the shooting were disciplined or not and what, if any, disciplinary action was taken.

shift in coverage?

Is Chief Jayne gonna be WWAY's new "Brian Burger"?

That's funny

That's funny that guy got married a year ago so how old is this news? Cant u guys find better more current news to report.

Its amazing in today's

Its amazing in today's society that public officials are sooo quick to " have no comment " on allegations made directly against them. If they are not guilty of the allegation and are truly innocent then why not defend themselves. Don't sit back and wait for someone else to defend you, stand up and walk tall.

Leland Chief Jayne

Please tell the Leland citizens whom to contact to demand this information. Do we contact the DA's office requesting an investigation into the Chief?

Don't bother - Jayne and Jon

Don't bother - Jayne and Jon David are neighbors and friends. Jayne has even babysat for them. Better to go straight to the sheriff!

Turn the lights out

The party is over. Clear the department and hire new officers.

these supposed officers of the law are. Driving town owned vehicles to a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach, suppose they drove back under the influence? Leland residents need to demand all these scumbags be fired and start over with some better class of people. I think crackheads in uniform would be better than this bunch. Four stars on his uniform he must think he's a friggin general, what a joke. The FEDS need to come into the dept like they did a few years ago and chop off some heads.WWAY dig up the old news when they came in and caught a Leland officer dealing drugs so the people will get a real sense of what has been going on since the beginning of this joke of a police dept. Where are all the badge hags to defend these guys, the silence is deafening..

Can you imagine how much the

Can you imagine how much the taxpayers of Leland would have had to shell out, if the officers were driving back under the influence and caused an accident that killed someone?

The people of Leland need to stand up and be counted. They need to be at the polls and hold every council member accountable for their actions. They need to be at the council meetings and demand that they do the right thing for Leland.

The cards are falling

The cards are falling and Leland PD is being exposed. Time for some new perspectives in Brunswick County. Leland Residents deserve better.

Word of caution

"Time for some new perspectives in Brunswick County."

Um yeah, I'd be careful with that. New Hanover tried that last election and well...

Police Department

New Hanover Regional Medical Center does not have a security dept. but a Police Dept. Get it right if your going to report the news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
