UNCW fans fill Trask Coliseum watch party with energy
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The UNCW Men’s Basketball Team is out of the NCAA after losing to Duke this afternoon, but their fans were heard loud and clear from the port city.
UNCW Fans were loud and proud this afternoon. Hundreds filled Trask Coliseum to support the Seahawks in Providence Rhode Island.
“This is a huge moment,” Alumna Summer Saunders said. We haven’t been to the tournament in 10 years.”
Saunders said seeing all of the support for the Seahawks was a moment she had been waiting for.
“It’s just cool to see all the school spirit, something that I’ve always wanted and it’s here,” Saunders said.
The school spirit lasted throughout the game.
“It was wonderful,” student Ashlyn Castleberry said. “There were a lot of supporters here.”
Even in the end, when the Seahawks did not come out on top, scoring 85 to 93 against the Blue Devils in Providence, their fans in the port city continued showing their support.
“I’m just happy we made it this far,” Castleberry said.
The Seahawks are out of the NCAA tournament, but they are not out of fans in Wilmington.
