Britt’s Donuts sweetening up Carolina Beach for another season
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s that time of the year again! Britt’s donuts is back open for the season.
They opened their doors for business around 8 a.m. this morning.
“This will our 77th year,” Owner Bobby Nivens said.
After a long winter, the famous donut shop in Carolina Beach is welcoming residents and visitors in for yet another year.
“We will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Easter Monday,” Nivens said.
Nivens says they always open on Easter weekend and of course they were open bright and early on this Good Friday.
Gavin Davis says he had his first Britt’s donut 5 years ago and they made a special trip to get some today.
“We came down here just for Britt’s Donuts.” Davis said.
Lisa Sears and her husband spend a lot of time on Pleasure Island and says they wouldn’t miss opening day.
“We come down for Easter every year and we are here because Britt’s just opened,” Sears said.
The word about Britt’s is clearly no longer a secret, the long line tells it all.
“It’s crazy, but it’s opening day so it’s always really busy on the first day back,” Customer Jennifer Gore said.
“We always came and got donuts but I don’t remember everyone in the state knowing about Britt’s,” Sears said.
Britt’s first opened back in 1939, Nivens says the business and the town have grown so much.
“Not just the donut shop, but Carolina Beach as a whole has grown,” Nivens said. “The donut shop is one of the oldest businesses down here and we just have a lot of good customers that just keep coming in.”
He says it’s the customers that makes Britt’s so special
“We have some great people, wonderful people, and a lot of them are repeat customers,” Nivens said. “We get to see people you normally wouldn’t get to see if it wasn’t for a place like this.”
Traveling from near and far, everyone has those own story about what makes the shop so special to them.
“We will probably be here everyday,” Sears said.
Britt’s will be open Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Easter Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Nivens says they will only be open on the weekends from now until Memorial Day weekend, then they will open full time.
