South Brunswick senior killed in crash
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An 18-year-old student at South Brunswick High School died this morning in a crash.
According to a spokeswoman from Brunswick County Schools Lily Beatini was headed to school this morning around 10 a.m. when the crash happened near the intersection of NC 87 and Cougar Drive.
“We’re certainly investigating other possibilities, but right now, it looks like she just ran off the road and over-corrected and lost control,” said Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Brad Shirley.
Shirley said she hit a Waste Industries vehicle. The driver of that vehicle suffered minor injuries. Shirley added they don’t believe drugs, alcohol or speed contributed to the crash.
Beatini was a senior at SBHS and involved in many campus groups and teams, including the cheerleading squad.
“Lily was very involved in her school, and our crisis team is of course supporting the school family today; staff and students,” Jessica Swencki said.
