Crews concerned bricks could fall from building
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Part of 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington is closed as crews remain concerned that bricks could fall from a building.
The Wilmington Fire Department responded earlier today to the Cape Fear Hotel Apartments at 121 Chestnut Street.
A WFD spokesperson said exterior brick veneer has pulled away from the exterior wall, which is a safety hazard because of the potential for falling bricks.
The section of bricks in question measures 25 feet long and 4 feet wide.
North 2nd Street from Chestnut to the entrance to the 2nd Street park deck will remain closed until repairs are made.
There is no structural damage to the building itself.
All affected business owners have been notified of the safety risk of the falling brick veneer.
There have been no reported injuries to fire personnel or civilians.
