First turtle hatch in the state happens Friday in Oak Island

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program organizers say the first nest this season has hatched.

They say they have more than 89 nests so far this season and they are the first in the state to have one of them hatch.

Their Facebook page has posted a lot of photos throughout the summer of the nests.

The season goes through October 31st so you are asked to not mess with any nests and at night keep any light to a minimum.
