WWAY says goodbye to George Allen after 52 Years
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of most influential people in WWAY history is saying farewell.
It’s not easy to say goodbye especially to someone been here for more than 50 years.
George Allen, you’re quite the amazing man.
In 1964, Allen got a part-time job at the station in August, then later in October WWAY would sign on for the first time.
Allen was a man of many hats and held several different jobs over the years.
After 52 years, today we all said our goodbyes but not without celebrating all of his accomplishments and the impact he had on the station and the people in the area.
We asked him if he could go back would there be anything that he would change and this is what he had to say.
“I don’t think there would be anything I would do differently,” said Allen. “I had the opportunity to move which I never did because Wilmington is home, my family is here, and my roots are deep.”
This afternoon we held a retirement party for Allen which everyone joined to share favorite memories and stories with him.
It’s a bittersweet time for our all of us here at WWAY, but he says he’s looking forward to slowing down and playing more softball.
