Trump to make campaign stop in Wilmington Tuesday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  The polarizing Republican candidate for president will paying a visit to the Port City next week.

A source within the local Republican Party says Donald Trump will be in Wilmington on Tuesday. The source says Trump will hold a rally at 2:00 p.m., but a site has yet to be selected.

This would be Trump’s first visit to southeastern North Carolina since he entered the presidential race.

The visit would make him the first presidential nominee to come to Wilmington since John McCain visited the Cape Fear Community College Schwartz Center in 2008.  Earlier that same year, both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton visited ahead of the Democratic primary.

Trump does have ties to the area.  His daughter-in-law is from Wrightsville Beach.  In March, Eric and Lara Trump stopped by her hometown to help campaign.
