Protesters, supporters literally on opposite sides of the fence

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Quite literally on opposite sides of the fence, protesters and supporters of Republication presidential nominee Donald Trump brought signs, banners, and props to help make their viewpoints clear as thousands of people rallied inside UNCW’s Trask Coliseum to support Trump.

“Well I actually got tickets so I could be inside, but I was a little discouraged that if I went over there I wouldn’t be able to express my opinion,” said protester Elizabeth Woodside.

“I believe that America at this point is on the precipice of disaster,” said supporter Jim Webster.

High spirited dialogue went back and forth across the street monitored by police who made sure to keep folks under control.

Some protesters said they are looking for Trump to be held accountable.

“And there’s some real professionals that have tried to press him, and his answers are vague, and he changes the subject or he ends the interviews,” said Woodside.

While some supporters said other candidates want the United States to become a totalitarian state.

“I’m here in support of being a patriot that wants our country to succeed. I don’t think there is any other choice unless you want over taxation and you want socialism,” said Webster.

The protesting lasted until after the coliseum had cleared, neither side backing down from standing up for what they believe is best for the country.

Inside the rally, security removed at least one protestor.
