McCrory to take voter ID fight to Supreme Court

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gov. Pat McCrory hit on many big issues for North Carolina as he addressed the crowd at Donald Trump’s rally Tuesday in Wilmington.

He called out Roy Cooper, his Democratic challenger, who he said is not doing his job as attorney general representing the state in legal challenges including the state’s voter ID law.

McCrory also announced the next step in the fight over voter ID that he will make Wednesday.

“To officially request that (US Supreme Court) Chief Justice John Roberts reinstate the right for photo ID in our next election in North Carolina,” said McCrory.

McCrory also touted his achievements over the last four years as he tried to rally Trump’s supporters to vote for him as well in November.

Trump also addressed North Carolina’s voter ID law. It was one of the first topics Trump addressed in his speech.

“What’s with voter ID?,” asked Trump. “Why aren’t we having voter ID? In other words, ‘I want to vote here’s my identification, I want to vote,’ as opposed to somebody coming up and voting 15 times for Hillary. I will not tell you to vote 15 times.”

Trump also touched on gun laws and terrorists.

He said if the victims involved in the recent terror attacks around the world had guns on them things would have been different.

Earlier in the day, Cooper also visited Wilmington for a tour of Cape Fear Community College, where he also fired back at McCrory.
