‘Save Echo Farms’ movement stands up at city council for a second time

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Residents of Echo Farms are not backing down when it comes to preserving their golf course, and tonight once again dozens turned out in shades of orange and carrying signs for the ‘Save Echo Farms’ movement.

A handful of people took to the podium during the public comment section of the meeting to explain their worries and share anecdotes of what it’s like living in the golf course community.

With more developments in the area being discussed, some folks said this is really a bigger issue than just Echo Farms. They said it could happen to anyone.

“It’s give people what they’ve been wanting for a long time. They did a neighborhood town meeting about two or three years ago and we told them that we wanted green space and to keep some green space and yet they still want to take green space,” said Beth Ann Hickman.

Traffic remains a concern for many, as well as construction disrupting their lives and such a high volume of new residents overcrowding area schools.
