911 calls reveal more details about Wilmington shooting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — 911 calls reveal the frantic moments after shots rang out at New Hanover Village Apartments Thursday afternoon that left a 7-year-old girl injured.
911 Caller: “We’re still laying on the floor, we’re scared to move. We’ve got to move. Can’t live like this.”
Multiple people called 911 Thursday afternoon saying they heard several gunshots and saw men running away. One caller revealed a bullet entered her wall and flying glass hit her niece.
911 Caller: “My niece got hit with something in here that’s broken. She’s ok, she’s not bleeding or nothing. It was a bullet that went through the wall and chipped the mirror. I’ve got a bullet casing in here too.”
According to the calls, other children were nearby when shots were fired.
911 Caller: “All I know is the first round, i saw kids running, Then I heard more rounds. I have no idea how many there were. I really don’t. To be honest with you I’m very nervous. I’ve got kids out here. and I wanna go out there but I don’t wanna be shot in the process.”
Investigators say the shooting started following an argument between two men.
