Candidate responds to allegations of punching opponent
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A political battle between two candidates for the North Carolina House of Representatives might end up in court.
On Monday WWAY reported allegations involving Republican candidate for District 46 Brenden Jones, and Democrat Tim Benton. Jones says Benton punched him during a family festival in Bladenboro Saturday afternoon, but Benton says that is not true.
Jones also said they began arguing over a flyer comparing Benton to Hillary Clinton, again Benton says that was not the case. Benton says Jones is the one who pushed him and yelled profanity at him while trying to talk things out.
“I did not punch him, no I did not,” Benton said. “I certainly hope that this nonsense can be resolved in a good manner the way it should be because I am not guilty of what I’m charged with.”
Both candidates have filed assault charges against each other.
