Southport officer legally drunk at time of fatal crash
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The Southport Police officer who died when he crashed his car was legally impaired, according to the toxicology report.
Ofc. Jason Freeman died March 12 when he crashed his patrol car on Stone Chimney Road in Supply around 5 a.m.
He was not on duty at the time.
According to the toxicology report, Ofc. Freeman’s blood alcohol content was 0.18, which is more than two times the legal limit of 0.08.
The NC Highway Patrol’s report released last week revealed Ofc. Freeman was driving 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
