AT&T gigabit internet access now available in Wilmington, Leland next
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — AT&T’s ultra-fast internet service is now available in the Wilmington area.
The company announced the start of its 1 gigabit connection on its 100-percent fiber in a news release. AT&T announced plans for the service last fall The Wilmington area is one of 53 metros across the country that has the service.
AT&T says in addition to the homes and small businesses connected to the fiber network in the Wilmington area, it connects area apartment and condo properties, such as Woodridge Pointe, RiverLights and the Village at Mayfair. It plans to expand access to ultra-fast internet speeds in parts of Leland in the future.
“High-speed internet has quickly become a preferred way to access information and communicate,” Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said in a statement. “I am glad to see this investment from AT&T, and am certain that the increased ability to tout Wilmington’s connectivity to fiber internet further strengthens the reputation of our community.”
AT&T says the gigabit connection lets users download 25 songs in 1 second or your favorite 90-minute HD movie in less than 34 seconds.
“We are proud to add Wilmington to our list of cities where we plan to bring our fastest internet speed available,” said John Lyon, regional director of External Affairs, AT&T North Carolina. “AT&T’s ultra-fast internet speeds will open up more possibilities for our customers. They can enjoy doing the things they love online, with less frustration and in less time.”
AT&T Internet 1000, the company’s fastest internet speed, is offered at $70 per month for customers who bundle with other AT&T service on a single bill or $80 per month standalone.
