Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Downtown Wilmington fatal shooting

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — A 29-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Downtown Wilmington last week.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, investigators, working in conjunction with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested Trayquan Maleak Hasty. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Emir Moore.
The charge stems from a shooting reported around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at 141 N. Front Street. When officers arrived, they found Moore suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said he died at the scene, despite their response.
Following the shooting, officers and detectives launched what the department described as an extensive investigation to identify and locate the suspect. At the time of the initial investigation, no arrest had been made.
Hasty is currently being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
In a statement, the Wilmington Police Department expressed its condolences, saying, “Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Moore family from this tragic event.”
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600 or submit anonymous tips through Tip411.
